Default Olympus digital voice recorder VN-900 or the VN-1800, any good?

I am looking to record outdoor "noise", like birds, streams, wind,
trains, cars, etc.... and than tranfer the audio to wav or mp3 to
edit in Cool Edit Pro and various other editing software. Just
wondering if anyone has had or used this device or know of a device
similar with equal value, roughly 35 to 60 bucks.
