Default "Mono-ing" a stereo output

I have a Leightronix Pro16 controller for tape broadcasts. It sends
play-rec-rew-stop commands to 8 tape decks, and switches the video and stereo
audio to any of 3 outputs.

Since I secondarily use it as a dubbing switcher (output 2), I would like to
keep the audio in stereo. But I only feed my cable RF modulator in mono. The
manufacturer warns NOT to use a y-adaptor to do this. Is there any other way to
mono the stereo output (1) without any adverse effect to the other outputs?
Would a small mixer do it without any "backsplash"?

Try www.rane.com.
Look for the RaneNotes on connections.
I think the article was Why not Wye?
Here, try this...

Black,

Is there any other way to mono the stereo output (1) without any adverse

effect to the other outputs?

Yes, and if the output cable run is not long you can do it with only two
resistors. Connect the output of each device to one end of a 4.7K resistor,
then connect the "far" side of each resistor together which becomes the mono
output. Hopefully this ASCII drawing keeps its formatting:

Try making a Y cable with 10K resistors in series with each leg.

Thanks to everyone who enlightened me on this. I suppose I'll get a cheap
Behringer and just combine/center the two channels.

You could always throw some money at an MTS capable RF modulator :-)

I'm at the mercy of the cable company. They claim to "own" all modulation
equipment (cheap Cadcos). They will only "let" me use a BTSC if I buy both that
and a demod for the headend!!!
