Default Jamo Speakers and Denon Amplifier combination

Hi
I am planning to buy the Jamo speakers, E 550PDD.5 - but only the
front floor speakers for the stereo and not the centre and surround
speakers. Here in India it costs about Rs 19740(~$440) just for the
front speakers. Being the novice, I went around learning a bit about
how to set-up an hi-fi system and am only a week old in this area. So
here I am taking the easy way and mailing you all. So would these
alone give me the good music and allow me to upgrade to the surround
speakers once I save more money.
I was recommended by the store-keeper who sell Jamo and Denon only
to go for AVR-1404 from Denon. Denon's specifications say that their
output is 75W+75W, while Jamo speakers have a range of power from
100/140W (long/short term - what does this mean ?). Now something
tells me this model of Denon is not the right one or the matching one.
It costs Rs.26888(~$600).
So, should I try and match the power from a Amplifier. I have not
heard good about Jamo speakers, but I loved the music from some of
their pieces. I could not judge well, this E 550 except it fits my
budget. Any other floor speakers which I should look at.

thanks,
Ashok

It is scary to first enter the high end jungle. I like Jamo speakers
myself, but you could do
some more research into Phase Technology and Wharfedale 8.2 with
subwoofer. The Denon
is less interesting that a Jolida 302 B Integrated Tube
Amp(www.verastarr.com, www.reponseaudio.com}
or if you prefer solid state, look into Rotel or Adcom. Keep doing your
research and trust your own ears. Don't forget
interconnects and cables, perhaps by Audioquest.

A,
First off.. Trust your own ears! As far as the power "mismatch", don't
worry about it. Power (Wattage) is next to meaningless. Chances are, if your
speakers are reasonably efficient and you don't like earsplitting levels,
you won't have more than a few watts (1-10) going thru them anyway. More
important is the impedance of the speakers. I have 5 sets of speakers and
almost all of them are 4ohms impedance. 4ohm speakers are harder to drive,
so make sure the amp is rated for them if you happen to buy a pair rated
that impedance. Shop around... then shop around some more! I can't emphasize
that enough.

- Nothing is so smiple that you can't screw it up! keithw...
