Default Looking for Andre Jute

I have not heard yet from Andre Jute, regarding my question about the
impedances of the speakers he uses, which is relevant to whether SETs must
inevitably have nonflat frequency response. It is possible that Mr. Jute is
already in the process of writing a thorough dissertation, rather than the
casusal answer we might expect.

In the interim, lets' consider Mr. Jute's place in audiodom, with
consideration for the possible pluses and minuses. In the entertainment
world, there is a type of person, as well as a job description, covered by
the terms "impresario", and "producer." Quite literally, "impresario"
means, "one who impresses", referring to intangible personality
characteristics that enable a person to align talent and money toward a
theatrical production. In a more matter-of-fact way, a "producer" is one and
the same. Because their talents are not compactly described, there is a
tendency to deride or minimize their functions. On the face of it, such
persons contribute little or nothing in the way of creativity toward a
project, yet their involvment has been indispensable in every form of
entertainment that we see or listen to.

I have examined the web pages of Mr. Jute in search of the person who
created them. The literary skills of this individual are prodigious. I am
not aware of practicing engineers who have these skills, given the
inevitable specialization of the mind that results from concerted effort in
one domain. Is it possible that Mr. Jute's quantitative understanding of the
art is not at the level of an electrical engineer? I make no such
indictment, but suppose that is the case.

Because of their inherent simplicity, SET amplifiers are accessible, to
intuitive understanding and manipulation, by individuals who may lack the
formal knowledge required for modern semiconductor designs. Intuition is a
marvelous human faculty that is capable of optimizing multivariate problems
without the application of formal algorithms. Intuition works best on
problems that have concave multivariate surfaces, without local minima, the
vernacular for which is "blind alleys". And intuition excels when the
ultimate criteria is not available as a Lyapunov function, but relies
instead on subjective judgement.

An industrial control system can cook a can of Campbell's soup. It cannot
make haute cuisine. My impression of Mr. Jute is that he tries to fashion a
school of audio haute cuisine, for which being an analytical chemist is no
help. If Mr. Jute has a following of customers, listeners, or friends who
enjoy the sound of his systems, then he gets my respect, regardless of
whether he can technically justify his assertions about SET flatness.

My dear fellow, I slipped up and published the information on RAT,
where it has been sitting for two days already waiting forlornly for
someone to notice. Sorry; I should have crossposted to RAO. I enjoyed
the rest of your analysis and am so flattered to be considered worthy
of the effort that I shall not argue tiny lucanae. I've been in and out
of the theatre and films since puberty as a writer, director and
producer, and your assessment is absolutely correct: all three add
distinct value to artistic endeavour. To me it seems that impresario is
different from a producer in scale; an impresario might put on a
festival whereas a producer would produce one or more particular events
within it. -- Andre Jute

LOL! Obviously your understanding of English is superior to your
rendering of it.
