Amp won't work
All of a sudden in the middle of a song my amp stopped working.
No power light coming on. The two 25 amp fuses on it are fine. It won't feed any juice to my Kicker Crossover either. I had the + the - and the return go into the crossover from the amp's +, - and return. I also checked all the fuses in my car and they are all fine. What could be going on? Something internally in the amp? But if so why would it not feed the crossover? Thanks for any help. IS |

Is there a fuse at the battery? my guess it that fuse is bad or the ground
connection on the amp has worked loose "IS" wrote in message ... All of a sudden in the middle of a song my amp stopped working. No power light coming on. The two 25 amp fuses on it are fine. Go buy a test light - they are fairly cheap at any auto parts store. A
multimeter is definetly the best since you can also use is it for alot more stuff. joe.ker wrote: Is there a fuse at the battery? my guess it that fuse is bad or the ground connection on the amp has worked loose "IS" wrote in message ... I have an electrical tester.
As it turned out I didn't need it. I should have known. . . the fuse on the positive side, about a feet from the battery, got blown. It's a 25 amp fuse. I was playing today and it was very loud, louder than usual. This is the amp that drives my two subs. So my question is why did this happen? Should I get a 30 amp fuse? Will this mean that my amp will be blowing fuses from now on at a loud volume? Should I consider a more powerful amp, that will allow me to play at this level? Thanks IS "mark" wrote in message ... What size fuses are on the amp? put a fuse by the battery a little higher

I have two fuses on the amp it self, each is 25 amps.
Then there is the one on the positive side coming from the battery. It is also 25 amps. I don't even know why this would happen. It's never happened before, but then again I don't think I've ever played that amp that loud either. Thanks IS "joe.ker" wrote in message news:%6l5e.707$Zn3.691@trnddc02... That Fuse at the battery is to Small. I would put a 60 AMP fuse by the

OK I put antother 25 amp fuse in there and everytime I turn the amp to a
very high level with a slight 40 hz boost from the crossover it blows a fuse. Would getting a more powerful amp solve this? The amp I have is about 300 W bridged in 2 ohms. It's a JBL M3. What size wire do you have one that amp?
You would need at least 8 gauge, 4 gauge even better, then you will need at least an 60 amp fuse next to the battery. The fuse at the battery is mainly to protect the wire, and the fuses on the amp are to protect the amp. that ok Chad? "IS" wrote in message ... I agree; he could safely go as high as a 60A fuse for an 8 gauge wire. If
the wire ever splits into a smaller wire, the smaller wire should have its own smaller fuse too. The danger of using a fuse that's too big for the wire is that a short or other load could cause it to carry a current larger than its ampacity (or current-carrying capacity). If that current is smaller than the value of the fuse, the wire can get extremely hot and cause a fire. Here's the ampacity of various wire sizes, assuming the wire is rated for 60 degrees C: AWG Ampacity ohms/m 14 25 0.0103 12 30 0.0065 10 40 0.0041 8 60 0.0025 6 80 0.0016 4 105 0.0010 2 140 0.00064 1/0 195 0.00040 2/0 225 0.00032 3/0 260 0.00025 4/0 300 0.00020 IS, to answer your question: No, generally a more powerful amp will draw more current and blow your fuse even faster. If the amp happens to be a lot more efficient (like a class D amp), it could conceivably solve the problem. But the right way to fix the problem is to use the right size fuse for the wire. If it still blows then you need to upgrade to a bigger wire. "joe.ker" wrote in message news:aNC5e.1653$hB6.1093@trnddc06... What size wire do you have one that amp?
