I thought I might ask this on this board, since you guys obviously
know your stuff and have been around in the music world.

Does Jim (the lead singer of Simple Minds) sing "live"? I mean, does
he really sing or use taped vocals stuff to mouth to like some artists
do for some songs? How can you tell exactly? Does it seem like he
does?.. for those of you that have seen them live, or know anyone
who's linked.
I don't mean like Top of the Pops, or commercially released concert
video or whatever.. Just regular live concerts.

I was on another music board and a fan was talking about Simple Minds
and supposedly how Jim doesn't really sing live and that he uses one
of those tape things. For whaever reason. Is this true? I have never
been to a SM concert, so I would not know.

The person said it's done through something like (sorry, I really know
nothing about these technical things. if anyone would like to explain,
i'd be very interested in general) a sounding board or mixing board,
something like that. And what they do is where they do stuff for
effects and echoes, etc., this is where they run such pre-recorded
vocals through, too.
And they run it through and set it up where it will flow through the
venue, as if it were coming through the microphone then to the
speakers.
Not sure how that works. ?

Now, I have heard others do it this way too, and does it sound/seem
like Jim is actually singing through his mic?

This person who told me this claims they supposedly even worked with
and as a sound techs and things like that the past few years. Not
SM's, but other bands.
