Default Trying to use unified drivers with Audigy 1

I went through the process of downloading these "unified drivers" for
Audigy 2 (approx 120 megs) and a patch that's supposed to modify them
so they can be used with Audigy1 and Live. See this article:

http://www.tech-pc.co.uk/audigy-1.php

Ran the patch and burned the whole mess to CD to make an install disc,
then ran it. All seemed to be going well until it asked for a file
on the Win98 SE disc. I have first edition. Does Audigy2 require Win98
2nd edition or is it the drivers? Is there some way to get around this
since
I'm actually using Audigy1?

Has anyone used the KX project drivers? Will they work with 98 First
edition?

Thanks for any input.
