I'm looking for an SPL meter with a digital audio recording option.
Does it exist? I actually want to record the sound levels and the audio
at the same time. It would be nice to have a non-compressed digital
copy of the audio, so I assume such a system would be suitable with a
removable storage device with high capacities.

the radio shack SPL meter has an RCA output jack.

if you are not doing measurements which require ANSI or IEC standards it
should be fine.

All you really need is a microphone and some software. Once the system
is calibrated, all the information needed is contained in a wave file.

Unless you have very deep pockets, the wave files will eventually fill
your storage. Probably, there will be a series of "events" that will be
most interesting. These can be archived in their full glory while the
bulk data could be compressed.

If you are more of a hardware than software type, you could hack a
Radio Shack meter, attach an A/D converter, and log both the SPL output
and the raw audio data with lab automation software.
