Tivo/Direct TV- Any opinions, pros or cons?

Yes, as you all know, I'm a newbie, but all your help and e-mails have
been wonderful.

I just ordered direct TV and Tivo to be installed in my new home next
month, and I was wondering what you all though of those two services,
and what to do to maximize their efficiency.

Thanks for any help!

Make sure they run **2** lines from the Tivo to your satellite dish. The Tivo
has dual tuners in it, but they only work if they run two physical cables to
the dish. I'd also ask specifically for a phase-III dish with triple LNB.
Sooner or later, you'll probably want HD and it is possible that your locals
may be on one of the other satellites anyway.

We've got a direct tivo and a HDTivo. Love them both. I almost never watch live
tv anymore. The Tivo is always on, gets the stuff I want to see so I can watch
it when I want to.

Movies in HD are actually better than DVD playback - so the HD-Tivo has
supplanted a lot of the DVD watching we used to do. HBO an Showtime both have
HD channels, as well as HDNet. The HD Tivo also does local off-the-air HD.

Tivo - pros: dozens of channels of mind-numbing lowest common
denominator shows
cons: your $ goes to corporations that provide dozens of channels of
mind-numbing lowest common denominator shows; won't improve your
music/recording/engineering/producing chops

DTV - pros: dozens of channels of mind-numbing lowest common
