Default Pentode in Triode Mode

Ok, screen to plate, no sweat.

The question is, with a pentode that has separate cathode and
suppressor connections, is connecting the suppressor to cathode the
best thing? Or leave it float? Would there be any operational
difference?

Makes little difference if the suppresser is connected to the plate or
the cathode. Some tubes have it connected internally to the cathode.
The sought after effect in pentode as triodes is that the control grid
sees G2 as a plate. G3 is hidden behind G2, so it doesn't have much
effect here.
