Default Wiring Speakers...4/8 ohms??

I am installing two pair of in-ceiling speakers and need
to know if it is OK to run each pair in-line and have only
two going to the amp??

What is the ohms rating of each pair of speakers?

You're probably ok (electrically safe) if you run each pair
in series. There may be a small change in sonic signature
from the speakers from doing so. OTOH, if you're
considering hooking to two pairs of 4 ohm speakers or a
pair of 4 ohm and a pair of 6 ohm together at the speaker
post of the amp there could be an impedance problem
(mechanical amp failure).

If you have two pair of 4 ohm speakers, you can purchase
a speaker selector box to compensate for impedance
variations

Location is a sun room-music is for background-currently
using just an old stereo amp with ratings of "music
power-200W at 4 ohms / 160W at 8 ohms" and "continuous
power- 85W at 4 ohms / 60W at 8 ohms".

"old stereo amp"... looks respectable, specifications-wise.

Speakers are rated at 8 ohms / 20-100 watts

Two pairs of 8 ohm speakers wired together at the
speaker post of the amp should not create an
impedance problem for your particular power amp.
