The Endless River
Was going to drop this on the ping-pong or stereo thread, but those
already more than appropriately OT. The Endless River. Listened through in the weekend. Most of it sound a bit like stuff you've heard before - not a negative thing - which is not surprising considering the background to the album. Some of the sounds on the CD are stunning. Occasional VLF rumbles that make one sit up ( if your speakers do that), but not overdone. But the bit's that really 'got' me were little MF+HF buzzes from synths and/or effected guitars , off to either side, that seem to reach inside one's head, grab a little piece of one side of the brain, and 'zing' it about for a few seconds or more. Also the juxtaposition of source material from different eras, not necessarily attempted to be made to sound 'the same'. I know what you're thinking ! No, totally straight (apart from a few beers and wines). Just can't help but wonder what exactly they did to those sounds to (purposefully ?) have that effect on a listener. geoff |
