Default getting a good sound w/ mbox / pro tools

I'm using mbox w/ pro tools, and I haven't been able to get a good
guitar sound on to disk. I'm getting a good sound out of the amp, and
am using an sm57, but the recorded sound is crap. No life, no
presence. With an eq plug-in I am able to improve it, buts it still
doesn't sound real. Do I need a mic preamp, or something? Any tips?

Try moving the mike around. Closer to the center, you get more top end.
Out toward the edge of the speaker cone, you get less. Pull the mike
back and get more room sound. Put it in forward and get less. Try
miking from the back.

Also realize that a sound that isn't so great solo may turn out to be
a very good sound as part of a complete mix.
