This seems very out of character for Ty. We've only spoken
on the phone a couple times but he's surely a sweet, bright and humane person who only wants the best for r.a.p. and for America. Roger works for veterans and sees a darker side of national life. As a veteran, I can see that too. These are not necessarily conflicting viewpoints. We live in interesting times. I've just found the sixth kitten of our neighborhood mommacat. I subscribe to alt.guitar.amps which has gone to the political dogs. At
least 9 out of every 10 topics is politics. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the rest are actually somewhat on topic. Your 'ignore thread' options are mostly useless when it gets that bad. rec.audio.pro is headed that direction. paul "Don Cooper" wrote in message ... The only thing I can say is that I don't do what I do to **** Ty off. We've
talked about it and I know his views. I've even tried hard not to get involved, but I guess about the best it lasted was a month, maybe. And you're right, Chris. I do see a dark side to all of this, and it will become more apparent to those who have to live with our guys coming home with tremendous psychological and physical ills, only to be screwed by the country that sent them to fight, without, I might add, having had the proper medical screenings before being sent into war, which is law. So now when our troops come home everything will be a "pre-existing" condition and not covered by benefits these guys earned. But it's an old tune that nobody wants to play anymore. -- Roger W. Ty I see roger giving good advice on audio , something I have never seen from Will Why not go after the neocons who generate 70% of the flames So far your targets have been me and Roger is that beacuse you feel we are respectful enough to consider your request, where the others would not be or is it just the ones of us that support the USA and freedom you think should shut the hell up and let guys like Will and Romeo have a free for all hate fest without our voices of reason to balance out thier lunitic fringe posts? However, this example of "Gratuitous Hate For ALL Christians - Hate For ALL Christianity, Any Day, Every Day" George whining about Will and Romeo begs to be noticed. At the end of the day I think that's what drives George - his need to be noticed. Here's fuel for more OT debate - Does George hate Bush more because of the Christianity angle, or does George hate Bush more because of his neoconservatism? I think we need to identify and understand the driving force behind much of this OT debate. Its pure, unmitigated hatred and frustration spilling out. |

Roger works for veterans and sees a darker side of national
life. As a veteran, I can see that too. If your talking about V.A. health care, I would agree 100%. But Roger is talking about the country as a whole, and he's full of **** and his status as veteran doesn't give him ANY special consideration of his opinions. I know a lot of bitter veterans too. They live their lives mostly unhappy and angry (about a wide variety of topics). There are also veterans who are dyed in the wool patriots who would go out and sacrifice everything again for their country. I salute ALL veterans for their service, but that doesn't give any extra validity to their opinions. I know, cuz I'm a veteran too, and have made enuff sacrifices to qualify for my "no extra credit" caveat. Rogers angry. So are you Chris, but lets not ruin rec.audio.pro just because of it. Lets say it out loud together... "I will not sacrifice R.A.P. to my political agenda". There, that wasn't so bad now was it? paul |

Meta-topics (Is THIS OT or not?) are by definition ON topic. It's easy enough to ignore the two positions posting political things. Then again, we're a bunch of PIKERS in the realm of flame wars. You wanna see flames, take a lurk over at alt.religion.scientology. For "flaming" take a look at rec.metalcrafts.welding, rec.theatre.stagecraft or something over in the alt.lifestyles.* heirarchy. my favorite part about the original "Topic Police" thread is that it was derailed off of it's own topic within the first five posts and commandeered (sp?) into a vehicle for repeating and enflaming the same conversations that are in all the OT posts...under the guise of agreement that there should be less off-topic posts, of course! Is that kind of like an AutoThread plug-in? Amazing technology. I understand it's very complicated. But that's all I understand. -- ha |

Given these thousand-post OT threads, and given that this group is supposed
to be for working professionals, I have to wonder -- Where do you guys find the time?!? :-) In article , am says... I'm not a huge participant around here, but I think I speak for a lot of us when I say - give it a damn rest already. If you like arguing politics, there are many good newsgroups to do it in. I know artistic types tend to be opinionated, and can't resist a little politicalizing amongst others of similar creative interest, but when we have OT forks back to the root from threads that were off topic to begin with, things are more than a little out of hand. Sorry if I'm out of place, being an irregular here and all - just my 2c. |

I have plenty of time. I could use a job. Since I'm 3/4 deaf these days, I have my son and a second engineer to do the bulk of the recording here, while I fritter away my time at the keyboard, answering questions, and checking out cool things to buy on ebay. I try to avoid the OT posts as much as possible. If the people who respond to off topic subjects were to limit themselves to just 5 posts (to state their position), it would cut down on the amount of stuff we see. If you can't convince somebody that you're right in 5 posts, there's not much hope that 50 posts will do any better. I understand that many people are frustrated by current events and they feel it's important to state their views. I'm reminded of an old poem that includes the line: "Therefore, ask not for whom the bell tolls." But, if they'd limit the number of their responses, it sure would make things a lot easier here. It's not too hard to sum up by saying, "I can see that you aren't convinced by anything I say, so I won't say any more than I already have on this subject". As for me, I invoke my God-given, often-used, "right" to be wrong about anything and everything. Harvey Gerst Indian Trail Recording Studio http://www.ITRstudio.com/ |
