Default How to remove my Panasonic car cd player from dashboard?

Hi,

I've got a Panasonic DP-33 CD player installed in my car, I would like
to take the head unit our from the dashboard for connecting another
speakers. I've got a problem on removing the headunit from the
dashboard. I first remove the faceplate, then all the screws that i can

see.

I've got 2 flat metal thing plugged at 2 sides of the unit. But I can't

even move the unit a bit. There is a word "SECURITY" printed on the
unit behind the faceplate. I have no idea on removing the thing out.
There is no article or document about this player. I reckon some people

has got the similar product and have experience on removing the thing.

Thanks so much!
Eugene.

Two things, first what kind of car do you have. Second, please be a little
more specific about EXACTLY what has you stuck. Have you removed the
dashboard trim pieces around the HU? With most cars, you sort of have to
take the dash apart to get at the HU.

Hi,

My car is a sedan Mazda 626. The player was installed properly, none of
the plastic dashboard part is covering the player. I just can't pull
the player body out of the slot. I thought there are some locks or
hooks or anything else stopping from pulling out.

When you say none of the plastic dash parts are covering the HU, is that
because you have removed the dash parts? Of course the dash does not cover
the HU (otherwise you would not be able to operate it, or put CD's in,
etc.), but YOU DO have to remove the dash trim pieces around the HU to take
it out. It it located (most likely) in a metal flange that is screwed to
the dash. You CANNOT get to this flange WITHOUT removing the dash trim
pieces. It WILL NOT just slide out. If I am misunderstanding your problem,
I'm sorry, but CD players just don't "slide-out" of dashes really, they
come out as part of larger assemblies. This makes me think you are not
doing the critical step of removing the dash pieces.

I just saw those pictures. You DO have to remove the dash trim pieces. See
my other post, your HU is attached to that tray thing below it by a metal
flange, which is attached to your dash. When you remove the trim pieces
around the HU, you will see the screws that allow to remove the HU assembly.

Actually, I haven't removed any part of the car dash, but i do remove
the HU trim piece, that is the plastic frame of the cd player around
the faceplate (although I am not too sure what you mean about HU trim
piece, but i guess its the frame of the headunit).

I know the CD player is sitting inside a metal case like thing, and
this metal case is fixed in the fashboard. The player is fixed by 2
clips at 2 sides of the player, What I want to do is just take the CD
player out from the metal case and keep the metal case there.

I used to have another cheap cd player, with no "SECURITY" word printed
on it, in my preious car. I just need to remove the plastic cd player
frame and then slide 2 flat metal keys in 2 sides of the CD player to
open the clips, then I can pull the player out. This panasonic player
is a bit different from last one. I can't even find where those clips
are... so no matter how I slide the key in it, it is still locked
there... I am thinking is the mechanism of these player which labelled
as SECURITY has another way other then just slide to keys in the gap.

I hope I can clearly explain the situation to you.

Look, this is the last time I am going to respond to you because you seem to
be purposefully not understanding what I am telling you (and please notice
that NOBODY ELSE is responding to this post because they know I AM
RIGHT!!!!). Your HU is attached with screws to that metal thing and YOU
MUST TAKE THAT METAL THING OUT OF YOUR DASH TO REMOVE YOUR HU. I PROMISE
YOU, THERE IS NO OTHER WAY OF DOING THIS. YOU CANNOT REMOVE THE HU FROM THE
METAL FLANGE THING WITHOUT REMOVING THE METAL FLANGE FIRST!!!!!!!!

You can argue with me and have your HU stuck in your dash forever, or you
can remove the dash pieces around your HU and take the screws out that hold
the HU assembly (the metal flange, HU, plastic money-holder-thing) to the
dash. Once you remove that WHOLE thing, you can then remove your HU.

THERE IS NO OTHER WAY !!!!!!!

Oh, I FINALLY see what the source of your confusion is. YES, your HU is
held by a sleeve, but LISTEN TO ME VERY, VERY CAREFULLY. The screws that
hold the HU to the sleeve go RIGHT INTO THE HU AS WELL.

There is a DAMN good reason for this. If it was only the sleeve that was
holding the HU in (and two clips like you think), HU's would be getting
stolen right and left. LISTEN, THERE ARE SCREWS THAT ARE HOLDING THE HU TO
THE DASH YOU WILL NEVER GET TO WITH OUT TAKING THE DASH APART!!!!!

First please put back the screws that you removed from the HU just beside
the text "Security" on the HU. Since this is not holding the HU but holding
the front part of the HU with the rest of the body.

BTW, if the center console is not going up to the dashboard, you can have a
better look from below. The HU is hooked into the dashboard using screws as
every one here told you. There are very few HU which slide out, but you need
to find out for your HU (manual/google).

Is taking out dash too complex. Mostly the screws can be seen if you look
from below.

OK, you gotta take the trim pieces off for starters.. You may need to go
through the glove box.. I say this because I've seen decks that have a screw
on the back of the deck that some people screw this to a metal bracket at
the back.. ALSO.. the metal sleeve most likely has tabs you can bend so you
can't pull the deck out.. I've seen this on pretty much every deck i've ever
installed.. there's 2 metal brackets you screw onto the radio on the sides,
then you slip the main metal bracket (sleeve if you will) around the deck..
once that's done, you bend the tabs that you've screwed onto the deck to
make contact to the metal sleeve. Once you do that, you cannot take the
sleeve off the radio. My guess is you have to bend those tabs back, check
to make sure your deck isn't screwed in with that one screw at the back, and
I know for sure you can take that deck out. The metal screw at the back is
usually used for a plastic piece that looks like a fat pin that can slip
through your factory hole.. kinda hard to explain..

good luck
Mike

I dont see what the big fuss is. To me, all he has to do is bend the
tabs back in or down on the "flange" or "cage" that holds the HU in the
dash, If you look closely at pic 2 and 3, there is a little indent
which looks like something may be holding onto the HU. Maybe a small
flathead screwdriver get in there and wiggle and twist than push the
two tabs in on the sides and pull out radio leaving the cage where it
is. Unless there is some metal bracket on the back of the HU through
the glove box that Mike said, but ehhhh, I wouldnt think so.
Thats how mine works. Since theft isnt a problem where I live, I never
pushed in flange tabs so it slides out easy.

I will try the way u guys suggested. But I really find it hard to take

Oh, and don't worry about the "Security" thing. Its just talking about
the flashing light when you have the faceplate off and does jack schitt.
Its meant to be a scare tactic for people trying to steal stereos.

In your pics, its hard to see where you're placing those plastic keys.
You may be placing them outside where they actually need to be to pop
the unit out. Try pushing them in firmly as near the HU as possible,
around the middle on the side. You may even try pushing the HU in a tad
when doing this as you might be creating a snag when its trying to push
the clip out.
