Default Best Audio Editor

I am curious to see, which one is the best audio editor for basic
needs ?

This is at best marginally relevant here in alt.audio.pro.live-sound -
mostly this group deals with sound reinforcement - and more in line with
what they do over in rec.audio.pro, so I added a crosspost pointing in that
direction.

What are "basic audio needs", it is easy to recommend a very complete tool
in the USD 300 price range, and going straight to one of those might be
relevant from a long term perspective (it takes time to learn to use the
many options of an advanced tool), but what DO you need?

Kind regards
