They use a different principle for converting mechanical vibration to
electricity. A dynamic microphone works by moving a wire through a
magnetic field, just like an electrical generator. A condenser mic
works by converting the mechanical vibration into a varying electrical
change, then converting that into a usable voltage.

It used to be that difference was about $800. Today that's not the
case.

British term for capacitor) use charged plates.

The principles by which they work are totally different, but there really
isn't any general statement you can make about the sound or pattern that
will apply across the board.
