for some months now, I have the Jamba-Jukebox-100 MP3 player. It uses
an internal 20GB hard disk to store recorded or downloaded audio data.
This hard disk is so noisy that the usage of the built-in microphone
for recording is not possible. It seems to be the standard problem
with the usage of hard drives in MP3 players. The only solution seems
to be an external microphone together with the player.

Though the player has a port for connecting an external microphone,
the technical documentation does not seem to reveal any technical
(electrical) specifications for such an external microphone. The only
information I get is the size of the female connector (same as for the
ear-phones).

Does anybody know, if there is a standard specification (e.g.
impedance values) for microphones for MP3 players that helps me choose
the right microphone? Does anybody know a good microphone to record
voice and music (e.g. for piano lessions) that does not necessarily
overamplify when the sound gets louder?

The ones that have microphone pre-amps (and not all do) are usually set
up to provide "plug-in power" (1.5 to 5 Volts DC) for a low cost pair of
condensor microphones.

You could do a lot worse than a set of our Low Cost Binaurals, or if
