Don't understand Alpine user EQ settings
I have a new Alpine CDA-9835 head unit.
Either the user EQ settings are more limited in functionality than I would have expected, or I'm just not getting something about how to use these EQ settings. What I think understand is this: How to select one of the five bands, how to adjust which frequency within each band that I'm adjusting, how to raise and lower the level of the selected frequency, and how to adjust the frequency width for each adjustment. However, the ability to adjust the bandwidth of each adjustment point seems way too limited, creating very narrow bumps in the resulting response curve that I'm trying to create. If you'll pardon some bad ASCII art (which you'll need to view in a monospaced font to see correctly), suppose I'm trying to create a broad bass boost that would look something like this: *** * ** *** ----------***************** What I keep ending up with is something like this: * * * * * * ---*---******************** I can't make the response curve slope gently downward from one adjustment point to the next. Instead, no matter I do, I get narrow bumps, with the response curve plunging down toward the 0-db line each adjustment point and the next. Am I doing something wrong, or am I expecting the wrong kind of functionality by trying to use my Alpine's parametric EQ as a tone control, rather than a tool to spot-fix narrow response anomalies? -Kerry |

Kerry,
How does the Alpine sound to you? Does it sound "right" for the adjustments you have made or does it sound overemphasized. I don't know how accurate Alpine's chosen display for your unit may be. Chances are that it is perfectly or fairly linear and the display is more of a mere "indicator" of what you've adjusted. But if it sounds good to you then that's all that matters. -- Todd To reply to me please remove "nospam" from my address ;-) |
