Default newbie question: what amp?

I'm considering picking up a pair of Image Dynamics CTX6 coax speakers as
well as an ID10D4 V.3 sub which is rated @ 175W RMS. I don't think I want
to amplify the speakers right now as my stock system can get good and loud but I
need to know what kind of an amp would be good for the ID10D4 V.3. I'm
just confused as to how many channels (the sub is dual 4 ohm) and what
kind of power in an amp I would need.

The bridging of amp channels and dual voice coils confuse me so hopefully
someone can help me understand what I should look for in an amp for this
particular sub.

Thanks very much,
Don

All you need is a mono subwoofer amp that will make full power into 2 ohms
(which is most of them).

Default newbie question: what amp?

Would a Rockford Fosgate Punch 301M with the following stats be good for
powering a dual 4 ohm sub w/ a 175W RMS rating?
# RMS Power: 150W x 1 @ 4 ohms
# Bridged RMS Power: 300W x 1 @ 2 ohms

Thanks again,
Don

Default newbie question: what amp?

Thanks for your help, Paul. I was wondering if it would be wiser to
purchase the 2-ohm version of the sub. Would I be making use of the full
bridged 300W with the 4-ohm version?

Default newbie question: what amp?

If your sub has dual 4-ohm voice coils (I think I got that from your
original post), then all you have to do is wire the two voice coils in
parallel (postive to positive, negative to negative). This will make
the speaker into an overall 2-ohm load, which it appears your
amplifier will handle. This will get you the full 300 watts out of
the Punch 301M.

Default newbie question: what amp?

Since the sub you're looking at is a dual voice coil sub the dual 2 ohm
version could be wired at 1 ohm or 4 ohms, neither of which will get the
most out of the amp. The dual 4 ohm version can be wired at 2 ohms which
will get you the full 300 watts out of the amp.
