Default Infinity Speakers 5.25" QUESTION! Help Please

Hi there,

I have just finished replaced some Pioneer TS-G1317 speakers (5.25")
in my rear deck. These speakers are fairly cheap (~ $25 / pair) and
sounded OK but lacking bass. I put in a pair of Infinity 5002i 5.25"
which I thought would be an improvement. The Infinity's sound much
worse. No bass, and generally poor sound. I got the Infinity's over
E-bay as a used item. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with
them or are they really that bad sounding? They generally go for over
$60 a pair and are of better quality then the Pioneer's so I don't
understand. The head unit is 20W RMS per channel and the Infinity's
are rated at 35W RMS. I'm assuming there is enough power to drive
them. The wires to the rear speakers are thin (22 guage maybe?) but
the Pioneer's seemed OK with them. I have some Infinity 3.5" in the
front and they sound much better than the rears. Any ideas here? There
doesn't appear to be any visible damage to the speakers that I can
see. The 5002i are two ways of course. I don't want to go to
components / subs / amps / enlarging openings for 6x9' etc. Just
looking for reasonable sound at low level volumes and these speakers
can't even do that.... Any help for testing of the speakers or
comments about them etc welcomed.........

Cheers,
Marc

Default Infinity Speakers 5.25" QUESTION! Help Please

I have the bigger 6002Is in my doors and I find them to be bright
sounding, but they will pump out decent bass when adequately powered,
when program material calls out for it. I dont think there is anything
wrong.... thats just their nature. I demo'd them at CC and chose them
intentionally, I like how they project vocals and guitar tones. I
intended to demo them @ CC and buy them on E-bay for half the price, but
the CC guy was extremely helpful so he won over my sale.

Were bass blockers installed previously to protect the pioneers? If so,
remove them. You said you bought them used. Did the previous ower
attach bass blockers to the infinitys (small capacitor in line with the
WOOFER)? DO NOT confuse this with the capacitor in line with the
tweeter!! If you bypass the tweeter cap you'll fry the tweeter.

I cant think of anything else.

I'll have to check the capacitor more closely. I know there is one
there but I didn't look if it connected to the tweeter or woofer. I
suspect that they are for the tweeter and are factory installed but I
will verify...
