Default CD Changer Reset, common problem?

First of all, I like to ask if disk jammed and reset problem common to most
CD changers.

I have a Sony CD receiver CR-C610, probably 5 to 6 years old already, but
the sound is very good. I used to have a 10 disc Sony CD changer, which got
jammed up in the course of changing disks. Failing to reset it, I bought a
new Sony 6 CD changer that plays CD-R as well, which worked well for a
little over a year, and started jamming up and require resetting again. The
first time it was fixed by unplugging the power to the changer and reset the
receiver. But now for the second time, unplugging and resetting do not
work. When I ask the shop keeper where I bought the changer, he says it is
a common problem for CD changers, and he actually advise customers against
getting CD changers, and buy front loading CD player.

Is the shop keeper right, that jamming up is a common problem for CD
changers, or is it my CD receiver that has the problem? I don't want to
spend the money to have the CD changer fixed but finding it jammed again a
week later. If so, I would rather get a front load CD player instead.

I don't know how common it is, but I've had a Kenwood 10 disc changer for 10
years now, and it has never jammed.

Mike, good to hear that you have no problem with your Kenwood changer.
Sometimes I think I hate Sony products. I bought a Sony laser disk player 5
years ago, the tray jammed up 2 months after I got the machine. It still
jammed up after fixing once. (Laser disks quickly went out of use so it did
not worry me much.) Hope to hear other opinions.

Default CD Changer Reset, common problem?

Hi Herman,

I've been using Sony CD and MD changers for some time... both 6 and 10
disk models. I've seen the jamming problem a few times, but I've always
been able to fix the problem with a reset.

Jamming is going to be more common for a changer than a single disk
head unit... more mechanical stuff in a constantly moving and shaking
car will always be less reliable than a simpler mechanism in the same
environment. That being said, I don't think it's "common" for changers
to be jamming constantly. If that were the case, manufacturers would
have stopped making them a long time ago to avoid the warranty claims.

Mr. Shopkeeper really wants you to buy a new head unit to use with your
changer...

smiles,
Jamie
