Need Diagram for Time Delay Relay to delay amp for 1 second or so
Does anyone know how to make a timing relay to delay my amp from turning on
for a second or so. This is for turn on pop elimination. Thanks |

A simple RC circuit will do that, however it will not
remove a turn on "pop" if its comming from the amp when it turns on. (it will just delay it) Jeff "William Pitt" wrote in message ... Does anyone know how to make a timing relay to delay my amp from turning on for a second or so. This is for turn on pop elimination. Thanks |

Go to a autoparts store and pick up a relay. Probably like 10 bucks or
so. These diagrams are taken from the rec.audio.car FAQ. There are two types The connections on the two types of relays look like this: SPST SPDT ===================== ===================== (87) (87) +---------+ +---------+ | -- | | -- | | | | | (86) | | | | (85) (86) | | -- | | (87a - center) | | | | (85 - right) | | | | | | +---------+ +---------+ (30) (30) Pins 85 and 86 connect to the coil which causes the relay to switch. On both relays, pins 30 and 87 are normally disconnected. When the relay is activated (switched) pin 30 and 87 are then in contact. The difference with the SPDT relay is that in the "normal" state, pins 30 and 87a are in contact. To hook up a relay (either kind) for a remote turn on, make the following connections: Pin 30 +12 Volts (Battery +) Pin 87 Amplifiers' remote turn-on terminal Pin 86 Head unit remote turn-on lead Pin 85 Ground Pin 87a No connection (SPDT only) "William Pitt" wrote in message ... The turn on thump is caused by transient signal in the audio path when
the moment the unit power up. By delaying the amp for a second or two after the HU turns on, the HU voltage settles down. Most of the amps today have this built in, but sometime the timing is not correct. -- pittwm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CarAudioForum.com - Usenet Gateway w/over one million posts online! Or from head remote out(+)
+-------R1--- toAmp Remote in ---+C1-----GND R1= 100K about 1Sec R1= 220K about 3Sec C1= 10uF 16-25V Time delayed turn on without relays, but if the amp is the source it will still pop. You can use the same circuit to delay relay turn on and use the relay to the speaker leads if it is the amp. Jeff "Greg" wrote in message om... Go to a autoparts store and pick up a relay.
