Default Do I need a new player

Hi,

I have had a Sony DVP-NS700V DVD/SACD player for 2-3 years now. I
can't remember exactly how long, and I should say I bought it in
Italy.

Until recently I had only one SACD (Billy Joel - The Stranger).
It played (and still plays) well.

Recently I bought the following discs:

Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon (Hybrid SACD)
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick road (Hybrid SACD)
Mozart Requiem - channel classics (Hybrid SACD)
Super Artists on Super Audio - channel classics (Hybrid SACD)

The thing is, only the Pink Floyd is recognized by the player as an
SACD.
The player treats the other 3 as normal CDs.

Is this a problem due to the player being old ?
Is the player broken?

I can't find any similar problems on Google.

I don't change the settings of the player between switching discs. The
pink Floyd disk is always recognised and the others just play as CDs.
It says on all the disks as well as the boxes that they are Hybrid
SACDs and furthermore ALL MULTICHANNEL.

Can anyone shed any light on what's going on?

Thanks,

Neil

Neil -

Sounds like you have a malfunctioning player. There was a fair amount of
that in the early first and second generation Sony's. Sony has generally
been able to fix them, and will do so under warranty on an ES machine,
particularly if you can find the purchase paperwork.

For much more on this, and others experience, go to www.audioasylum.com and
to their "Hi-Rez" Forum (for SACD aficionados), then search the archives
under Sony problem(s). You should find several nights reading there.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I did face this problem once but it was due to accidental pressing
of some buttons on the remote. I suggest you reset by using "quick"
and everything should be fine. If I can remember which setting makes
CD as default I'll email you if the post here not accepted. I know you
are telling it recognises one SACD. Also check the small knob behind
the player.

Rgds.
