Whatever Happened to Bob Carver?
Still hasn't got a lick of common sense either.

"dizzy" wrote I think he's done alright. I think he's a genius. Agreed. I wonder what H.F. has written about him in his reference tome? (But this doesn't make me a fan of his power amplifier designs.) Well, yes and no. Carver certainly outflanked Stereophile in the "The Carver Challange." |

Why? Have you bought his junk? Actually, yes. I snapped up one of his original C-9 Sonic Hologram generators when they first came out. Until then I was using a crude "Hafler Hookup." I can remember the first time I ever heard Carver's Sonic Holography, besides the little test disc that came in Audio magazine. I was in San Francisco (this was 1980) and I went into this stereo store and they had Warren Zevon blaring out "Werewolves of London." I said, "Let's hear it without the rear channels." The guy informed me that only the two little speakers in front of me were active. I knew right then that this was some cool stuff. I never did get to hear Carver's little M-1 amp, however, but I always thought it was ironic that someone like Carver who thought outside the box produced an amplifier that was a box. |
