Do you know, is this black object a" rifle microphone"
Hi;
Sorry to bug you nice folks, but i gotta ask. I have a weird video. No one appears to know for sure what that mystery black pipe is coming through the wall on this very short video. I got an email saying it's something called a rifle mic, but when i did a yahoo search the ones i saw looked different. Anyone know if this black object is actually a rifle mic? The video is in quicktime format and is listed here.... http://thevandalnextdoordeaththreats...m/pipe007.html Background info about the video and the situation is listed here..... http://thevandalnextdoordeaththreats...asar-intl.com/ If you do know, please post or email, i will make it worth your while. Thanks in advance, spike |

Thanks in advance, spike like pictures of UFOs this is blurry enough to be anything long and slender. the tip of the object appears to be a blunted point. this would be NOT consistent with the shape of any type of long shotgun mic that i am familiar with. lack of holes along the sides (which are necessary for direction al mic operation) indicate this is not a microphone. the lack of a windscreen (aka "rat fur") would suggest that IF it is a mic that the operator was clueless or the day was dead calm. the fluctuation of light level as the action takes place suggests that something is blowing in front of the camera lens. it does appear that the object is being handled like a shotgun mic, pointed at an open window. forget what you see on TV and movies. micing anything from a distance is quite difficult. trying to pickup a conversation inside a house from outside a house, even with an open window would be problematic to say the least. maybe if the occupants were having a screaming fight you might get something usable. |

The shape of the pipe is not likely to be a rifle mic. The movement on "timecode" 0+34+48 is unlikely to be made with a rifle mic as it is too "fast" to be made with the mass of a common rifle mic. This is physics Who made this video? If he did this, here's my thought: The camera operator is on it's own. He starts the camera and looks through the viewfinder. Meanwhile, he uses his left hand, fitted with an ordinary pen (there it is), to point out something on the image. As it is difficult to mark a spot on the picture when you're looking through a viewfinder, the operator starts a bit too much on the right. He then corrects his position to point out the white area left to the window. Then he probably explained what he was going to do, telling something like "right there", giving an accent with the pen on the white spot. After that, you can see in the shadow of the glass that he is moving in the room. Probably walking to a device which can magically turn the white spot next to the window into black. Have you noticed that? Hope this helps. Gert |

This is a video of a TV screen displaying an image, that's why you get the sync bars scrolling on the screen. Look closely and you will see, in fact, a shadow of the pointing object (which is probably a pen) on the surface of the video screen. This looks like someone trying to prove some dumb-ass conspiracy theory by faking some "video evidence." |

It looks too short and fat to be any kind of rifle mic. No idea what it may be, but this person is clearly related to news2020 in some way. d -- Pearce Consulting http://www.pearce.uk.com |

Thanks in advance, If it *IS* a "shotgun mic" then it is not being used properly and will be practically useless. I would be far more worried about it being a firearm of some kind that could shoot at me. I would not be concerned about someone hearing me at that distance with anything that looks like that. As others have already observed, "shotgun" microphones depend on having their entire length (1~3 feet) exposed to the environment so that they can sort out which direction sound is coming from. Anything a few inches long poked through a wall is certainly not any kind of long-distance microphone of any kind known to the general public. If it *IS* a microphone (which I doubt), the users are either idiots or possess knowledge superior to anything on this planet. Was there a black helicopter (or a UFO) parked in the back yard? |

Indeed, if you freeze frame about a quarter of the way into the shot, you can very clearly see the silhouette of a knuckle on the right and a nail-up thumb on the left, gripping a classic hexagonal clear plastic 'Bic' ballpoint pen. -- Stewart Pinkerton | Music is Art - Audio is Engineering interesting, note that the count decends as the clip is played and it appears that somone inside opens the windows curtain or vertical blinds at count 51and remains there to the end of the clip. it appears that this may have have been a time lapse camera whos images were transfered ro VCR then played at speed while being recorded by yet another (probably cheap computer cam) camera. perhaps the myserious black dot is a mudball or something. note: i did not follow the background link in preferance to mearly observing the clip. |
