Default 917-8a altec lansing speaker.

Does anybody know anything about this 12 inch loudspeaker? It is in my
guitar amplifier. What is it worth, and is it any good? 8 ohms

Thanks

Essentially an updated version of the 417 with a ceramic magnet.
Sort of the 12" baby brother to the 421A (15"), an excellent
PA/guitar speaker. Very efficient and durable.
Competitor to the EV and JBL offerings of the era.
I think these have a 3" VC.

People claim the 917 is an "updated version of the Altec 417," but it isn't.
Fs on the 917 is a lot higher and it wants to see a smaller box volume.
This is probably a beneficial thing for a guitar amp, and it is entirely
possible the 917 was built as a reaction to people using the 417 in guitar
cabinets.

T-S parameters can be found at:

Is it any good? I dunno... if you like what it sounds like, it's good.

I think it sounds great, I was just wondering what the consensus was
among people who knew a bit about speakers (my knowledge is pretty
limited, and i couldn't find much info online)

thanks everyone
