Default 48kHz on Audio CD?

Hi,
I was wondering, is it possible to write an audio cd with .wav files of
48kHz and 16 bit, or do they have to be 44.1?

If you want an actual audio CD within the terms of Red Book, then no
you can't. Of course you can save such a .wav file on a CD ROM.

Many things are possible. But an audio CD will be played back at
44.1KHz. So it's a good idea to record files at that rate :-)

Your CD burning program may refuse files at other than 44.1KHz. It
may accept them, but they will play back wrong. It may even invisibly
convert them to the correct rate.

Do you mean, will the CD-Audio format support sample rates of anything other
than 44.1 KHz? The answer to that question is a qualified no
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Boo...D_standard%29).

If you mean, can you rate convert some .wav files that you happen to have
recorded at 48KHz, the answer to that is yes, if you have rate conversion
software. But the official CD-Audio tracks must be at 44.1KHz.
