I went to college with Bob Quine. He was the only dude there with a
Strat. Extremely intense about music and nothing else, with a weird awkward vibe about him. Since he did not major in music, I have no idea how he got through college. Deliberate (there was a note) heroin overdose, from someone not known for addictive drug use. And he'd tried to check out the same way this past winter. his work with Matthew Sweet is fantastic, but the first Richard Hell & The Voidoids record is incredible. if you haven't heard it, you should check it out. His solo on "Betrayal Takes Two" is still shocking to me--it's a methodical, twisted violence to the song, like someone coming into your house and breaking every other dish. For my record-buying dollar, I still love his work on John Zorn's Filmworks I (particularly the end titles to _White and Lazy_ and _The Golden Boat_--two songs that are worth the price of admission) and much of _Basic_, which he did with Fred Maher. Sure, the crappy 80s Lindrum is too loud, but if you listen past it, there are some fine moments. He was a unique, cantankerous mind and a fine, honest player. He'll be missed. -- Maurice Rickard http://mauricerickard.com/ | http://onezeromusic.com/ |

god, I loved his playing. "Love comes in spurts" solo ends on the open strings.
I love that. It's really sad. P h i l i p ______________________________ "I'm too ****ing busy and vice-versa" - Dorothy Parker |
