System Stealing
How often do systems get stolen and how can I make mine less likely to
be stolen. I have an Alpine deck which is the only visible part of the system really. I have a Thunder 1501D, a Thunder 801D, a Thunder 564 I am going to install and a MTX 9500 15" and the dual 9500 10" subs. I have /////Alpine and MTX decals on my car. Should I have them removed as to make it less likely to be stolen? Where are the systems most likely to be stolen. It is going to be parked in an outdoor parking lot behind my apartment building so it isn't visible from the street and isn't that seculded, but how worried do I need to be? |

The single biggest thing would be to remove the stickers. I once had
a plain-looking Volkswagen Jetta, except that I had big "Linear Power" stickers at the top of the windshield and the rear window. Sure enough, my car got broken into. Between the stolen equipment, stolen CDs and damage to the car, the total insurance claim was about $4500. Without the stickers, I doubt the thief would have even noticed my car. If the Alpine deck is the only visible non-factory component, that's good too. Removing the faceplate (if you can) is also a good idea, even if you just stick it under the seat or in the glove box. A potential thief won't know for certain whether or not you took it with you. Always lock your doors, and an alarm can't hurt, even if it is just a noisemaker. The name of the game is to make someone else's car a more attractive target than yours. You can also use security screws to fasten down your components and enclosures, so that it makes them that much harder to remove. Lastly, don't crank it where you park it. There are obviously good and bad places to park your car, but the one time I've had anything stolen, it was in front of my house in one of the more upscale neighborhoods in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, so no place is really "safe". Scott Gardner On 28 May 2004 12:51:57 -0700, (Bryan Jackson) wrote: How often do systems get stolen and how can I make mine less likely to be stolen. In addition to what Scott said, be VERY selective to whom you show off your
stereo to. The more private you are about it the better. Tony -- What's more likely? That an all-powerful mysterious god created the universe and then decided not to give any proof of his existence? Or, that he simply doesn't exist at all? And that we created him so that we wouldn't have to feel so small and alone. -Eleanor Arroway, Contact "Bryan Jackson" wrote in message om... True what Tony says. When in residential areas, don't "bang" your system
fully cause people will track you. On the expressway, it's as loud as you want to go. Same with stop lights and stop signs, I always turn my down to a normal level to not draw as much attention. If you have a really sharp thief, most states sell their motor vehicle
database to 3rd party companies and the entire database can be purchased for less than a couple hundred bucks (these companies even offer quarterly subscriptions). I've purchased the NH and MA databases myself and the amout of info is staggering. I could pull up names and addresses by plate number or search on all Ferraris in either state. If I needed a fender from a red 98 Vette, all I had to do was write a SQL query using their database (and not their front end) to look for all red 98 vettes. I even had it linked to a mapquest type application that would show me on a map where my queries were located. Sickening.... and I can tell you it scared the hell out of my coworkers knowing that this sort of data is running loose out there. "mayhemkrew" wrote in message news:3JUtc.7573$pt3.451@attbi_s03...
