Sounds like the lazer lens is dirty,
"Lazer"?
They produce a special disc for cleaning the lazer lens,, it has small
brushes built into the disc.. get one of those or clean the lazer lens
with a small brush, end of problem..
IOW a "cleaning disc".
Guaranteed to scratch the lens, and to leave dust and brush particles
in the mechanism.
"Sound" advice, indeed.
