reason. The plug wouldn't be as sturdy, and the torque on the jack would be
greater, increasing the chance of damage.
The plugs aren't what need changing. The designer of accessories need to work around them, as well as other features on the device they are designing it for(cameras, microphones, etc.).
Of course, I get flamed for stating simple common sense...
