The text accompanying Figure 3 points out that the design could be built
with a lot of 2H distortion. This may sound more like a 300B than SP's
design - but whether that is the point is something else... ;-)
I agree that Zen is likely to be more like KISS than is KISASS, but
(noting that Fig 3 is specifically described as 'not a real circuit')
to name a five-transistor amplifier as 'Death of Zen', is utterly
hilarious!
