Class D power amplifier---what about class-D CD?

Just wondering...
If the music producer can record music as PWM (pulse
width modulation) signal direct onto CD.
What's wrong with PCM?
Than a "class-D" CD player doesn't need a Digital-Analog
converter.
Why worry about solved problems?
DACs are now cheap and good.
The PWM signal can be feed direct to a class D
power amplifier.
Providing it used pure PWM, which is not a given.
This can save a lot of "signal conversion'"
Not a serious problem right now.
Here's a question - how will you implement tone and volume controls?
