You do know that the baggage handlers have the master keys to those
padlocks, right?
Yes, but that's a risk one must take if flying with kit and needing to
check it. I see cases holding tens of thousands of dollars worth of film
and recording equipment get checked as baggage.
A baggage handler could still rip it of, but it wouldn't be as easy as
just opening a bag and grabbing something. Most cases I see have four or
more locks.
