I am currently doing this on a regular basis. I use a 64 track Paris system
as the master DAW lightpiping audio to/from a slave DAW running Cubase SX
with two RME HDSP 9652 audio interfaces and 3 x UAD-1 DSP cards. It's really
very simple. If your master DAW has a 9 pin sync output and your slave DAW
has a 9 pin sync input (the RME HDSP 9652 has this) just attach your
lightpipe I/O between the cards, configure your bussing options to taste,
connect a 9 pin serial cable from the master DAW ADAT interface sync output
to the slave DAW ADAT interface sync input, configure your slave audio
interface to sync to incoming ADAT sync, configure your slave software to
lock to incoming sync and press *play* on the transport of the master DAW.
They should lock up and the timelines should sync sample accurately. You may
need to dump the Digi 001 as your slave in favor of another DAW. If I recall
correctly, it has no external sync capabilities.........but it's been a
while so I don't remember.

Cubase SX or Nuendo running on an RME HDSP9652 is a pretty awesome slave
application when used with a proprietary hardware based DAW like Pro Tools
or Paris. The mixdown options are almost unlimited, plus you can load up
your slave DAW with UAD-1/Powercore cards and since the way Cubase SX 3 does
delay compensation for these DSP processors is to apply a lookahead to
incoming timecode, it actually moves the tracks forward in time based on the
number of plugins it is automatically compensating for, tracks that are
playing back in one or the other application (or both) will remain phase
aligned.

Dream come true/Best of both worlds. If the 001 won't sync to incoming ADAT
timecode, there are many other (possibly better) options for you.

Hello,
I'd like to connect my two computers and I need some suggestions...

CPU n°1: MAC G4 776MHz running OSX protool TDM mix plus + ADAT bridge + 1
RME ADI8pro
CPU n°2: PC running protools LE + digi001

My main daw is of course the MAC. I edit on it, out to 4 pairs in

analogue,
I mix it analogue and then I come back to CPU n°2 through my fantastic
two-channels AD converter into digi001spdif.
This is what I've been doing till now.

I want to run soft synths and soft samplers on the PC. Then I could buy a

8
tracks audiocard (RME?) with ADAT optical outputs and I could come back

into
the MAC via ADAT bridge into the MAC for mixing them (plugins and other
stuff)...
In your opinion can this be done or will I have huge problems with sync?

Or
maybe there are problems I haven't thought about yet?

I'm looking foward to read your suggestions..
Thank you for your attention
