Default Auto electrical question not audio

Shawn B. wrote:
Greetings,

I've been digging for a suitable newsgroup but this seems to be the closest
I can find but it is slightly off-topic.

I want to install into my 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid a driving recorder. There
are two cameras that are 8-12V DC 300ma each and a quad signal
processor/recorder that is 12V DC 200ma.

My car already has a GPS navigation unit (factory installed so I don't have
electrical statistics since they don't provide it), a custom sunroof
(electrical), and a rear-view mirror that is attached to the electrical
system for dimming when bright lights are behind me.

What my specific questions are, whether the cameras/processor would be a
huge drain on the electrical system that I intend to only be recording when
the car is in movement and not when the engine isn't started. I'm hoping
that people in this group will be more electrically knowledgeable than I am
and could answer that question for me before I drop the money on the
equipment.

I've looked into some racecar camera kits and so on and they all have
similar electrical needs so I don't think it'll be a problem but I want to
make sure.

Well, 300mA *2 + 200ma = 800mA... so AT MAXIMUM all that would draw less
than an amp. There's very little in the car that would draw less than that.
