Why not?
Recording with more bit-resolution makes the audio cleaner. This has
nothing to do with clipping. Clipping in caused when the physical
mechanisms (electrical, magnetic, thermal, acoustic, etc.) are
overloaded to a state of injury.
Less bit-resolution = more noise = more dirt
Clipping = energy forced into object faster than it can dissapate =
injury
