Default Dynamic Mic Noise

so I'm not clear if the OP determined,
was his problem due to:

1) high frequency RFI from the cell tower

** Not likely at all.

2) low frequency magnetic interference from nearby power equipment

** The OP has changed to using mics with a hum bucking coil and solved the problem. One of the original mics tried was an SM58, which are highly sensitive to mag fields since there is an unshielded tranny in the handle.

BTW:

Since some folk seem to be unaware of what a microphone hum bucking coil looks like or where to even look for one - I tried to find a decent pic on Google Images with no luck.

The obsolete Shure Beta58 has a very prominent bucking coil you can see by just winding off the mesh grille.

If anyone can find a pic of one please post a link.
