buffers are not set low enough, there will be latency.


The "musical" latency of the input is usually low enough so
that you can play pretty much in time if you have to monitor
what's coming out of the D/A converter instead listening to
the input, but there's always some delay. When listening to
your own voice on headphones through the input/output chain,
you can usually hear the effect of comb filtering due to the
acoustic and electric sources combining at your eardrum.

The usual fix (or it's already the case so it's never
noticed) is to turn up the headphone volume so that it
swamps out what you hear through your normal throat-to-ear
connection. That's often too loud for some singers who
aren't belters, but good for belters.
