Default Converting a two channel amplifier into a four channel amplifier. Is it possible???

Lets take an older receiver, or some other integrated amp that has
binding posts for 4 total speakers...8 total binding posts. Is there
any way to make this stereo amplifier into a multi-channel amp where
each set of speakers (4 total) have a seperate interconnect as they do
with 4 channel amplifiers? It seems like it is possible, but I
question the difficulty of the conversion process. Anyone can help
here? Is it possible, not, and if it is, what you have to do?

The appearance of extra binding posts does not mean there are extra channels
of amplification. Frequently, the extra binding posts are part of an
integral speaker switch; the actual power amplifier has only two channels.
However, home theater surround receivers do actually have extra channels.
But except for newer units, the rear channel amps are deliberately designed
to a lower level of performance than the front channels.

It's hardly worth the trouble, but:
The schematic has to be examined for the input to the power amplifier.
Minature switching relays must be installed, as well as input coupling
capacitors.
Jacks to the back of the equipment, and some way of controlling the relays.

Or: break the circuit and route the output and inputs at the break points to
RCA jacks at the back panel. Don't forget to include the coupling capacitors

This is a lot of work for little payoff.
I'd just check out eBay for a cheap power amplifier. Anything you buy there
will be better than the surround channels in an old receiver.
