Default Best record deal strategy in this global world?

I'm a new kid on the block, working on music that seems to have global
appeal.

What's the path to the highest financial return? Once it's finished,
should I offer it to a US label, an European label, a Japanese
label... or ???

It varies depending on how many you will sell. If you are producing
something that will sell 500 copies, then a microlabel is your best bet
alongside some place like CDBaby. At the other extreme if you have enough
appeal to sell 5 million copies worldwide a major label is your only real
solution. Outside of the majors (which are genuinely worldwide) the American
labels carry the most international clout in the general music market, but
in each subsection of the market different nationalities and sometiems even
different labels are the best option.

Since you're new I'd suggest selling through CDBaby first, and seeing how it
actually sells, if it sells well incorporate under your own brand and cut a
deal with TVT or Koch for distribution. If volume looks to outstrip your
distribution channel then you'll most likely be approached by the majors
anyway.

Of course I always encourage people to make sure they get distribution
through Caffeinated Music, but, as the primary shareholder, I have
substantial bias.
