It doesn't really have 80 dB of gain. What the spec sheet says is that
it has 80 dB of gain RANGE.

Oh right. I just saw a close up of the gain knob. The preamp
gain scale goes from -15 to 65 dB. 80dB Range. Bah. You really
have to pay attention.
