Default Unobtrusive, high quality speakers for stereo only?

I guess I am behind the times (I don't watch TV in between wars :-)
and Home Theater bores me). BUT, my wife and I are music addicts, and
eclectic (however most listening is fingerstyle guitar since my wife
is quite a talented guitarist). So, our 20 year old, high quality (for
then), high sensitivity Cerwin-Vega speakers are about to give up the
ghost. In addition, I am tired of looking at, and bumping into,
speakers and having their stands mar my red oak floors.

My amplifier is an old, but wonderful, Proton integrated amp, with
"smart" amplification that can deliver up to about 300 watts/ch for
about .2 second, if needed.

My first inclination is to find a white subwoofer/sattelite system and
mount the sats on the walls and hide the sub. I first thought of Bose
AM 5 III, but they have been dumped on in reviews. But,it is real hard
to uncover one because the only things that seem to be out there are
5.1 and 6.1 Home Theater setups.

Can anyone suggest a system or two? I would like to find a decent one
that doesn't break the bank.

Thanks,

Reid
