If one wanted a "highend" hi-fi audio solution from a PC and for it to
be controlled by the PC itself (preferably with no interface of its
own), but with amplification and speakers being kind of remote in
location, what are the possibilities?

1 A good Firewire hardware device seems feasible. But how much distance
can a firewire connection run?

2 WLAN audio. Ex Apple Airport. Are they any good? 24/96?

3 Other possibilities?
