Yes, the cor anglais has a more extended timbral structure.

Yes, there is extra 'richness' to the viola sound.

saxophone playing in the same register?


Usually, although I find that more difficult.

If not, the psychologist must be right:-)


Only if he meant that some people (such as recording engineers) tend
to suffer premature deafness.
