Each keyboard's MIDI implementation determines how to translate keyboard
performance into controller values that get sent either to an internal
synthesis chip set or drive an external sound source. How that sound source
processes varying velocities is not at all determined by the keyboard or
computer. Besides, velocity changes to a fortissimo piano sample will not in
any way sound the same as a pianissimo sample of the same instrument. More
harmonics are activated during loud playing than during soft. The hammer also
impacts the string with greater force, activating upper partials.
