Listen to the Made In Japan LP by Deep Purple and while there are one or
two rough spots. It is, by general consensus, the best album they ever
made, but it's not perfect either technically or musically.

In a similar vein, listen to the early version of Jeff Wayne's War Of
The World, recorded in one hit with musicians entering and leaving the
studio as they were needed with all the fluffs left in, but has the
musicians feeding off each others' vibes, then listen to the technically
perfect new version, with the musicians recording on their own in a
small studio. For all its imperfections, the earlier version lives,
while the later version sounds as if it was just glued together from a
load of samples. "

I have no problems with imperfections in
the performance itself. I do however have
big problems when the recording of that
performance is F-d with in post. You know
what I mean.
