Default QUESTION: Surround Headphones

Hi, all.

I'm considering investing in a pair of home theater headphones. But
technical information is sparse, and I want to make sure I know what
I'm getting into.

Here are my head-scratchers:

There's a Pioneer set I'm looking at (SEDIR800C), which purports to
handle DTS and DD5.1. It claims it has inputs for Digital Optical and
coax. In my home theater system, my DVD player has these outputs, but
the feed from these is (presumably) raw; it's the receiver that does
the encoding to DD5.1 or DTS. So either I need a digital output from my
receiver to go into the base unit of the headphones (carrying the
encoded signal), or the headphone base unit must be able to take the
'raw' ditial audio signal from my DVD player and do its own
encoding/emulating. I don't see how else the headphones would create
the DTS/DD emulation.

Secondly: Assuming I do have to take the output directly from my DVD
player to get the full support of the headphones, what about normal TV?
Would I be expected to keep plugging in an analog input for normal TV
out of the headphone jack of my amp, and then back into the digital
output of my DVD player to get the full audio spectrum?

Thirdly (I'll shut up soon): Assuming I have to run a digital output
from my DVD player into the headphone base, then I'd have 2 digital
outs running at once - one to my amp, and one to the headphones. In my
experience, a player will only push signal to one output at a time
(presumably based on some kind of active connection detection); This
suggests that my amp would need to be turned off entirely for the
headphones to work...

Someone who owns a set of these could likely fill me in. But I have yet
to find information online that explains it all.

Any wisdom would be appreciated!

Thanks!!
