The part you are missing is that the retail price listed is what dealers
and other are selling the equipment on the street for. Let say you have a
car and you can trade it in and the dealer will give you $5000 for it or
you could sell it outright and get 9-10k for it. Please tell me that you
would gladly trade it in and lose 4-5 thousand in the process rather than
wait a week or two and keep that 4-5 k in your pocket.


No, I am not missing anything. I don't trade in cars because I know the
dealer is going to pay me much less than I can sell the car for. At the same
time I don't expect to sell the car for the same price the dealer would
sell the car. It's unrealistic and you would need to find an uniformed person
to do that. Which is really taking advantage of them, something I won't do.
Just as if I am looking to buy a used car, it would be foolish to pay a private
seller the same price you would pay to get the identical item from a dealer.
When I buy from a private party I pay well below retail.
